PATERSON, NJ - The City Council last week approved a $17,010 workers compensation settlement for police officer Erik Diaz.

The council's resolution said the case stemmed form three separate incidents.

On Oct. 30, 2010, Diaz twisted his left knee while trying to arrest a domestic violence suspect, the resolution said. Then, on March 1, 2012, he re-injured that knee while trying to pull a driver out of a vehicle on an embankment at Spruce Street and McBride Avenue. In that incident, the resolution said, the driver became violent and tried to throw Diaz over the embankment.

The resolution says Diaz also injured his hand when he stepped back from a speeding vehicle that side-swiped him.
