PATERSON, NJ  – Superintendent of Schools Eileen F. Shafer released a statement Monday in recognition of the one-year anniversary of the death of Eastside High School Principal of Operations Dr. Gerald E. Glisson.

“Today marks one full year since we lost our dear friend and dedicated colleague Dr. Gerald E. Glisson, and it still feels like it was only yesterday that our hearts were broken by his passing,” Shafer said.

The beloved educator was 46 years old when he lost a battle with COVID-19, sending shockwaves through the Paterson community.

“As I reflect on him and the past year, I think Dr. Glisson would be proud of his students, his colleagues, our teachers, his friends and, most of all, his family for the strength and resilience they have shown during the past twelve months,” Shafer continued.”

In September, at a ceremony in which Council Vice President Dr. Lilisa Mimms referred to him as “a man of distinction who was passionate about imparting knowledge and wisdom to the next generation and beyond,” city and school officials announced that the soon-to-be rebuilt Bauerle Fieldhouse will be renamed in Glisson’s honor.

“Let us continue to carry on Dr. Glisson’s legacy of caring, compassion and hard work, as we continue to pray for his wife, Michelle, and his daughters, Sydney and Skylar.”
