Labor Museum Gets $10,000 Grant

HALEDON, NJ - The American Labor Museum/Botto House National Landmark has received a grant in the amount of $10,000 from The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey .  The grant will fund the Museum’s Saturday Labor Art Classes.

“This grant from The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey will enable the Museum to continue the important work of providing third, fourth and fifth grade students with opportunities to participate in hands-on visual and performing arts activities by which they are encouraged to develop their understanding of an immigrant worker’s home, lifestyle and workplace as a means of comparison to the same issues today,” said Angelica Santomauro, Museum Director.

The American Labor Museum/Botto House National Landmark is located at 83 Norwood Street in Haledon , New Jersey .  It was the meeting place for over 20,000 silk mill workers during the 1913 Paterson Silk Strike.  The Museum offers a free lending library, restored period rooms, changing exhibits, a Museum Store, Old World Gardens , educational and cultural programs and special events.  The Museum’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday 9AM-5PM.  Tours are offered Wednesday through Saturday from 1-4 PM or by appointment.  For further information, please call (973) 595-7953, email labormuseum@aol.com or visit the museum’s web site,www.labormuseum.net
