The role of the HVIP (Hospital Violence Intervention Program) crisis intervention therapist is to help people in crisis who have experienced difficulties in navigating the challenges they face as a result of their violent victimization. Duties include counseling one-on-one with patients, documenting their situation and progress, working with other professionals involved in the case, helping procure services by working with other agencies, working closely with PHC team and more.

The duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Providing critical resources and support to individuals in crisis

  • Provides a full range of mental health treatment services 24/7, including: Mobile Outreach/Screening, responding to hotline calls, assessments, crisis counseling, case management and participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning, record keeping, consultation and education

  • Collecting data and using it to make informed decisions regarding individuals

  • Co-facilitate weekly case conferencing sessions with staff and conduct appropriate follow up with case managers

  • Coordinate legal intervention, outreach, referrals, services, and more

  • Assessing patients to determine their needs

  • Providing crisis management services during the acute stage that assists the patient to become more independent as the individual and continued counseling so that the patient learns coping mechanisms and regains control of their life

  • Following up as required

  • Maintaining communication with family members, medical providers, government agencies, and other stakeholders

  • Handling time-sensitive calls and emails, even during off-hours

  • Analyzing data from surveys and notes Maintaining financial records

  • Organizing patient data and maintaining files

  • Communicating, both orally and in written form, with other members of the team to improve program efficiency or overall crisis intervention success

  • Disseminating information to others as directed by the Program Director

  • Adding to the overall discourse in the field with research, reports, publications as directed by Program Director

  • Providing individuals in crisis, family members, and the surrounding communities with information as to the nature of the crisis, why it’s happening, and what it means for them

  • Conducting briefings and workshops within the organization

  • Speak or engage on panels, community meetings, press briefings as directed by Program Director

  • Working within a team setting and being a team player

  • Participating in Community Outings

  • Providing mobile response to meet participants for advocacy or crisis intervention with another team member present.

  • Consistently engage in scholarship and training in best practices to support survivors of violence

  • Support with light office duties

  • Provides mental health screening assessments and makes appropriate interventions and referrals, in consultation with Program Director.

  • Training others in the organization on best practices as needed

  • Case management of up to 15 participants

  • Ability to work well in the greater Paterson, NJ community

  • Expected to participate in community outings, home visits and any other participant related events.

  • Flexibility in schedule to work on call/weekends

 

  • Resident of Paterson/Passaic County Preferred

Pay: $70,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • Day shift

  • Monday to Friday

  • On call
