St. Joseph’s Health is pleased to announce that Nilesh Patel, DO, has been appointed as Chairman of Emergency Medicine. In his role, Patel will oversee the Emergency Departments at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, and St. Joseph Wayne Medical Center in Wayne, New Jersey.

“Dr. Patel brings more than a decade of experience delivering emergency care to our community, and will continue to expand on our innovative services and programs,” says Kevin J. Slavin, President and CEO of St. Joseph’s Health. “Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Patel has responded in remarkable ways, and is the right choice to lead our emergency team as they provide compassionate and expert care to all who come through our doors.”

Dr. Patel has served at St. Joseph’s for over 13 years, and as Vice Chairman of Emergency Medicine for the last two. He also has worked in various roles including Patient Safety Officer and Clerkship Director for Emergency Medicine, as well as program director for the Emergency Medicine Residency program, training the next generation of emergency physicians.

“I am honored to take on the role as Chairman of Emergency Medicine for St. Joseph’s Health,” says Dr. Patel. “Emergency medicine has always been my passion, and serving at St. Joseph’s has allowed me to provide care to individuals most in need.”

Dr. Patel attended medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated with his medical degree in 2003. He completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown/Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 2007 and then joined the St. Joseph’s Health Emergency Medicine team.

Dr. Patel has given over 200 regional and national lectures related to various topics in Emergency Medicine and has served as Chair of the Medical Education Committee for the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine (ACOEP) for 10 years. Currently he serves on the Board of Directors for the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Mark Rosenberg, DO, former Chairman of Emergency Medicine for St. Joseph’s Health, will assume the role of Emergency Department Chair Emeritus. Dr. Rosenberg also serves as the National Chairman of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
