PATERSON, NJ - Paterson has lost a legend, Mayor Andre Sayegh said, announcing the death of Ed Cotton. Cotton, who died in the early hours of Friday was 72.

Cotton had a distinguished career as a professional boxing referee, stepping inside the ring for some of the most prolific fights, including when Mike Tyson faced Lennox Lewis.

A fixture at local events, Cotton, who served as a member of the Paterson City Council as well as Director of the City’s Department of Public Works, always stood out, both physically and because of his affable nature.
