PATERSON, NJ - In a nod to Paterson’s continually diversifying community, Superintendent of Schools Eileen F. Shafer announced that Nahed Badawy will serve as the new principal of Dr. Hani Awadallah School.
Badawy, who started working for the district as a substitute teacher in 2003, and has served as vice principal of the school since its opening in 2016, Shafer noted in a statement, is the first Arabic speaking principal at Paterson Public Schools.
Suggesting that her ability to “communicate with the parents and understand the parents,” was a key factor in Badawy’s hiring Shafer predicted that those skills will “maximize student achievement.”
Shafer also pointed to Badawy’s track record of success and added that “she already has a plan to get the job done.”
In her own comments at the event announcing the decision Badawy asked for the support of parents. “You are the foundation. You are the main reason the students are going to succeed.”
Shafer also announced that Jennie Cadet, formerly vice principal at School 21, will serve in the same position under Badawy.
