PATERSON, NJ – Paterson Public Schools are advancing efforts to secure additional dollars by establishing a 501-(c)(3) non-profit organization. The move, Superintendent Eileen Shafer said, will enable the district to apply for grants and corporate donations available only to tax-exempt entities as well as serve as a trusted liaison for donors and grantors from the public and private sectors.
“Given the limited resources available to the district, we see this as an innovative and viable way to increase revenue streams to support the district’s efforts to serve Paterson students and their families, ” Shafer said. “This is an effort to maximize our grant funding to the district, as well as make it more convenient for people and organizations seeking to support Paterson Public Schools to make contributions to our efforts.”
The Board of Education commissioners approved a resolution for the creation of the fund at the January 2nd meeting. The fund’s initial Board of Trustees will include Superintendent Shafer, Business Administrator Richard L. Matthews, and Paterson Public School’s Attorney Boris Zaydel.
