PATERSON, NJ - Soon to be Passaic County Community College (PCCC) graduate Marie Febrillet has been named a recipient of the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, PCCC President Dr. Steven Rose announced.

Graduating with a 3.8 GPA and an associate’s degree in Liberal Arts/Communication, Febrillet is the first PCCC student to win the highly competitive scholarship, awarded annually by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to exceptional community college students.

“Marie is most worthy of this honor. She is not only an exceptional student but an outstanding leader,” Rose said. “She is going to do great things!”

One of only 50 students nationwide, out of 1500 applicants, to be named as an awardee this year, Febrillet, who hopes to transfer to an Ivy League university next Fall, will receive up to $40,000 a year for three years toward completion of her bachelor’s degree at the four-year college or university of her choice. The scholarship funds can be applied to tuition, living expenses, books, and other college costs. Cooke scholars also receive special advising support, networking opportunities, and the option to apply for graduate school funding.

In addition to her academic achievements Febrillet is also an active member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honor society for two-year colleges, has been named to PCCC's All-State Academic Team 2020 and is the College’s first New Century Transfer Scholar and TEK Production Transfer Scholar, both PTK awards, receiving a combined $2,750 in scholarship awards. She is also a recipient of the 2019 Ellucian Pathways Scholarship, a $5,000 award.  Last year, Marie served as president of PTK’s Middle States Region, only the second student in PCCC history to hold that position, one of the highest in the PTK organization.
