My name is Dania Martinez, I was born and raised in Paterson, NJ. I am a mother of two beautiful and intelligent children. I became a teen mother at the age of 18 years old during my senior year of high school, this was a time in which I faced many challenges. However the time came where I learned resiliency and held steadfast to hope. Many people said all my dreams and hopes were gone and my purpose in life was to raise my daughter. I raised my daughter while working on my dreams.

I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Arts in Spanish and minored in Women & Gender Studies and Latin American Studies from William Paterson University. I completed my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Monmouth University. I am also an Emerge NJ Alumni Class of 2018, a program that trains and prepares women in New Jersey to run for office.

I own a Women’s empowerment brand called Women’s HERstory: Leading by Empowerment.  Every year I host a panel of successful and/or scholarly women to share their story of triumph, trials, and tribulations. As women we share the same struggles in being successful, we are criticized for being too educated or lack thereof, too loud, and I want women to be allies in supporting one another. We need to give ourselves permission to be who we want to be and not feel ashamed about it. My purpose in life is to show young moms, single mothers, and women we can achieve all of our dreams if we work hard and believe that can it be done. I changed the narrative that others wrote for me I am now a statistic turned success. Be the author of your own story.

This is the reason I am running for Paterson Board of Education. I would like to bring my skills and life experiences to serve my community. If elected I would like to bring more social and emotional wellness awareness within our district. Our children’s mental health is crucial for academic success, address bullying- we all want a solution.  I intend to educate our families and the administration on why it is happening, and lastly parent advocacy. When our parents understand their rights and how to better address concerns the more involved they can be. As a Professional who has more than 10 years of experience working in the educational field it is a major concern of most parents. It is my experience they do not know how to advocate for their child or look for resources. I am a mother and a concerned parent who understands what our community and most importantly what our children need.

November 5th   Please come out and support!
