PATERSON, NJ - As a child she remembers her parents and grandparents instilling the importance of learning in her. As a parent, and grandparent, she has brought that same value to her offspring. Indeed, Councilwoman-at-Large Dr. Lilisa Mimms can often be heard preaching about the importance of making sure Paterson’s children have every opportunity to learn.
On Saturday, as families continue to struggle under the weight of school closures and stay at home orders brought on by the spread of COVID-19, Mimms announced that she wanted to bring “blessings” to local students and teachers by giving away 13 tablets and laptops to aid in learning, as well as 10 gift cards valued at $25 each to let teachers know they are “valued.”
More than 600 people entered their children or favorite teachers with the drawing expected to take place at approximately 2:00 p.m. Sunday.
“This is a challenging time for everyone,” Mimms said. “I want to try to be part of the solution.”
