Today, across this nation, we are mourning the loss of a Civil Rights Icon, Congressman John Lewis. When you think of words like Justice … John Lewis; words like Equality … John Lewis; words like Steadfastness … John Lewis; words like Perseverance … John Lewis.

Even if you have never met this honorable man in person, you knew you were standing on the shoulders of a giant; you were walking in the footsteps of resiliency; you knew you needed to be steadfast raising your voices against unjust laws in an unjust society in an unjust world. You knew you must always keep alive the spirit of our ancestors who have put more blood, sweat, and tears to build this nation, which some have tried throughout history to make us believe we don’t belong in.

So, today, let’s take a moment to remember, to reflect on a life well-lived in the pursuit of justice and equality for all in the Honorable John Lewis.  Representative Lewis fought for social justice across the board including criminal, healthcare, and housing reforms. Every day he worked to make a difference in this world that seemed to be blinded by the challenges our communities face.

Honorable John Lewis, we thank you for standing up for those who couldn’t stand up for themselves. We thank you for showing us the way and for leading by example.  We have it from here; although we know you will always be watching over us. May you rest in peace Congressman.
