PATERSON, NJ- Mayor Andre Sayegh has tested positive for COVID-19, he announced in a statement Tuesday.

Saying that he was not suffering from a fever or cough, and that he doesn’t know where he contracted it, he is now fully quarantined in his home. His wife, Farahanna, has also been tested and Sayegh said they would closely monitor their three children.

“I encourage all Patersonians to take this disease seriously and stay at home when possible,” Sayegh said. “Even with all my careful efforts of social distancing for the last month - keeping six feet away from all individuals, vigorously practicing good hand hygiene, and even over the last week, wearing a mask in public - I have fallen prey to this virus.”

Referring to himself as a fighter, Sayegh committed to continuing to do his job on behalf of the City of Paterson and keep the public updated on his health as the days progress.
