PATERSON, NJ - A 13-year-old Paterson resident has been arrested in connection with what has been characterized as the accidental shooting death of another 13-year-old.
As previously reported, police officers responded to 133 Harrison Street at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, and discovered the victim, later identified by family members as K'Zure Credle. An autopsy later determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of death was a homicide.
The investigation, according to the report, revealed that the two juveniles were hanging out together, and were playing with a handgun. The gun accidentally discharged, striking the victim in the back of the head as the other juvenile was playing with the weapon, the report said.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald, the juvenile suspect has been charged with “acts of delinquency.” These charges, the statement clarified, would constitute the crimes of Aggravated Manslaughter, first degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, second degree, if the suspect were an adult.
At a meeting of the Paterson City Council just days after the incident K’Zure was remembered by his aunt, Tishelle Jackson, as “a good boy." K'Zure loved playing video games and “making beats,” a hobby that led a joke between the two of them that he was “trying to be Puff Daddy,” she added.
“He was playing outside, being a kid," she said of the incident at the time.
