PATERSON, NJ - A 37-year-old Paterson man is under arrest in connection with a Friday afternoon shooting that sent a 33-year-old man to St. Joseph’s Health with a non-fatal gunshot wound.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora, Wayne A. Smith has been charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; and Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree. 

Smith, who faces up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison on the most serious charge was identified as the shooter and arrested just hours after the incident, the statement read.
