PATERSON, NJ - A suspect already being held in Passaic County Jail on unrelated matters is do in court on Tuesday to answer to additional charges related to an August 22 shooting that claimed the life of 25-year-old Xavier McRay.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald, Nasiera Jones, was formally charged with Murder, first degree; two counts of Attempted Murder, first degree; three counts of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second degree; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Second degree; Conspiracy to Commit Murder, first degree; and Certain Persons not to Possess Firearms, second degree on Tuesday.
An investigation into the incident, the report states, revealed that Jones was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by his co-defendant Jordany Santana and, while driving past a crowd at 125 Presidential Boulevard opened far, striking three men.
While Santos Lantigua, 38, Jersey City, and local man Shadire Scott, 19, were both treated for their injuries, and released from St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, McRay was pronounced dead at approximately 9:02 p.m.
After the shooting the suspects are said to have driven a short distance before abandoning their vehicle and using a second one to escape from the area.
Santana was previously charged with the same offenses related to this incident and is currently being detained at the Passaic County Jail pending presentation of the charges to the Grand Jury.
