PATERSON, N.J. - Paterson police announced Wednesday that two Eastside High School students were taken into custody Tuesday amid an investigation into violent threats made online against their former Elementary School.

The threats were investigated after a concerned party brought the information to teachers and eventually the principal of the New Roberto Clemente School, Hector Montes. Montes convened an emergency meeting of school staff on Tuesday afternoon and talked about carrying out a "Columbine or Sandy Hook" type of attack, according to John McEntee Jr. President of the Paterson Education Association.

"We are very concerned with the safety of all students and staff at New Roberto Clemente in the recent "Columbine-style" credible threat.  We have made demands for metal detectors, police presence, and conversations with the Union about the issue" said McEntee, "Our phone has yet to ring".

As a precaution the Paterson Police Department provided extra patrols to the two schools. A search of the two students houses produced no weapons or materials for carrying out the attacks, and police said the students were in the early stages of such planning.

The Juvenile Division is presently working with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, and the Paterson Board of Education on this ongoing investigation.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Detective Quaema McElveen and Detective Charlie Garcia at (973) 321-1126.
