PATERSON, NJ - Several Paterson city and school officials, as well as other family and friends, made their way to Prospect Park Monday to celebrate the swearing in of Daniel Cabrera as the neighboring municipality’s Fire Safety Director.
Cabrera, whose only familial roots hail from Paterson, is also the son-in-law of Elsa Mantilla, the woman recognized as the leader of the city’s Dominican Parade.
“This is important to me, to have earned people’s trust,” Cabera said after Mayor Mohamed Khairullah administered the oath office to the more than 10 year veteran of the Prospect Park Fire Department.
Khairullah, as well as each of the members of the Prospect Park governing body, would offer their congratulations to and appreciation of Cabrera’s work before several Paterson officials, including Fifth Ward Councilman Luis Velez and Board of Education President Oshin Castillo spoke.
“Every time you call on Daniel he answers,” Castillo said.
In his new role, Cabrera explained to TAPinto Paterson, he will serve as a “fiduciary steward” of the dollars spent by the volunteer department.
Saying he is mindful of placing any additional burden on taxpayers Cabrera offered hope that he’ll be able to utilize various relationships he has developed with state and federal officials to help secure grant funding for equipment and apparatus upgrades.
“We are a small community but an active department,” Cabrera concluded.
