PATERSON, NJ - The Paterson Public Library on Broadway has long been a destination for out-of-town visitors. Unfortunately, too often it hasn’t been the books, job training or other resources provided to the community inside, it’s been the opportunity to purchase illegal drugs outside.

"This successful operation demonstrates that our main library will not be a destination for drug dealing and drug users,” Mayor Andre Sayegh said Wednesday after early morning action by the Paterson Police Department netted 12 arrested of both alleged buyers and sellers. “We are determined to make that area safer for our children."

Those arrested, coming from as far away as Whippany in Morris County, now face charges in relation to the possession of, and in some instances intent to distribute, both heroin and crack.
