PATERSON, NJ - A 14-year-old Paterson boy has been arrested and charged in connection with the Friday shooting death of Saddot Free, 22.
As previously reported, the incident took place just before 5:00 p.m. outside of 378 Rosa Parks Boulevard, A second man, Quadir McRae, 24, was also hit by gunfire. McRae was treated and later released from St. Joseph’s Medical Center.
According to a statement by Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald, an investigation has revealed that the victim and the suspect were traveling with an adult female who dropped them off at a restaurant located at the address where the incident took place. A short time later, the report continues, McRae and Free became involved in a physical fight outside, at which time the juvenile fired a handgun at Free striking him in the torso.
After he was shot, Free went into the restaurant seeking help while McRae, struck in the leg, was driven to the hospital, along with the juvenile suspect, by the same female who had originally driven them to the restaurant.
The juvenile is charged with acts of juvenile delinquency that would constitute the crimes of Murder, first degree; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, second degree; and Possession of Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second degree, if he were an adult.
