PATERSON, NJ - Two members of the Paterson Police Department’s Street Crime Unit thwarted a would be armed robbery in the early hours of Saturday morning, Paterson Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said in a statement.

According to Speziale, Detectives Rene Alicea and Joseph Aboyoun were patrolling the area of the 200 block of 12th Avenue at approximately 1:00 a.m. when they observed two men standing in front of a residence with their hands in the air, a third man standing in front of them.

As the detectives approached, Speziale continued, they observed that the third male, later identified as Nicholas Williams, was pointing a large firearm at the two victims. After announcing their presence and moving towards him Williams attempted to hide behind a vehicle after discarding the weapon.
