PATERSON , NJ - Paterson firefighters saved three squatters from a vacant apartment building as a fire raged in the attic above them on late Sunday.
With temperatures soaring to about 90 degrees and high humidity making it feel even hotter, the first reports of a fire on the roof of 855 Main St. came in at about 11:30 PM. As the first responder arrived they noted heavy smoke coming from the attic area of the large three-story vacant home.
Firefighters quickly went into action removing coverings from doors as Truck 1 worked on venting through the building’s roof. As firefighters located the three individuals on the third floor flames broke through prompting a call for additional support.
Despite the intensity of the heat, and the flames, the fire was placed under control in about an hour. No serious injuries were reported.
