PATERSON, NJ - The efforts of two observant law enforcement officials to break up a drug transaction led to the recovery of a large amount of illegal narcotics, as well as a loaded semi-automatic weapon on Sunday.

According to Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale, Detective Mohammad Bashir, of the Street Crime Unit, along with Prosecutor’s Detective Eugene Tolliver of the Ceasefire Unit, were assigned to a Special Operations Detail at approximately 6:20 p.m. when they came across a vehicle occupied by two occupants in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Pearl Street. 

The report continued that the detectives stopped the vehicle in the area of 16th Avenue and Carroll Street for investigation and to issue summonses for motor vehicle violations at which point they recovered the weapon along with 59 baggies suspected crack cocaine, 29 capsules suspected crack cocaine, 112 xanax pills, and 169 glassines suspected heroin.

The suspects, Zahkeir Carter, 21, and Briana Hall, 19, both of Paterson, were transported to Paterson Police Headquarters without incident, and processed accordingly.
