PATERSON, NJ - A 30-year-old Paterson man became the second victim to die from gunshot wounds in the city in less than 24 hours on Monday.

In the latest incident, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald, police officers responded to the area of 12th Avenue and East 22nd Street at approximately 10:40 p.m. on a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, the report states, police discovered Dashon Mayfield, 30, with multiple gunshot wounds, Mayfield was immediately transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center by Paterson Fire Department EMS where he died from his wounds a short time later. A second victim, Tymir Leary, 30, also suffered multiple gunshot wounds at the scene, but was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in a private vehicle prior to the arrival of first responders where he was said to be in stable condition.

On Sunday, Kevin Lewis,28,Paterson was shot in the area of 271 Summer Street and later succumbed to his injuries.
