PATERSON, NJ - Law enforcement officials will continue to use state and federal prosecutions to stop guns from entering the Paterson, Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said in an announcement Friday following the arrest of an armed man.

According to Sepziale, the arrest of Zimere Jones cam at approximately 9:00 p.m. after members of the Street Crimes Unit observed him allegedly engage in a hand to hand narcotics transaction in the area of Summer Street and Broadway.

As the detectives approached to investigate further, Jones began to flee on foot when he was observed removing a handgun and suspected narcotics from the bag before discarding them in front of  two Van Houten Street residences.

While Jones was apprehended by Detective Bashir and found to be in possession of narcotics, Detective Traynor retrieved the loaded weapon which will be submitted to the New Jersey State Police Ballistics Laboratory for further examination.
