PATERSON, NJ - Paterson police made seven arrests Friday in connection with alleged prostitution taking place at Moonlight Lounge, 98 Market Street. Six of the suspects, law enforcement reported, are from outside of Paterson.
According to Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale an investigation into the activities were launched as a result of “numerous complaints from concerned citizens,” including that “dancers” would openly solicit patrons for sexual acts in exchange for money. A portion of the ill-gotten proceeds would be given to the bar, the report said.
At approximately 11:10 p.m. on Friday an undercover operation was conducted by the ABC/Vice unit who were assisted by the Narcotics and Patrol Divisions. In addition to the seven arrested, two managers and five “dancers”, $2290 in illegal proceeds was recovered and 10 ABC Administrative charges were filed.
Included in those arrested Ana Checo, 47, Carlstadt, reportedly a manager, who was charged with promoting prostituion and maintaining a house of prostitution. $1730 was recovered from Checo. Raquel Abreu, 41, manager/bartender, was charged with the same crimes with $69 being recovered from her.
Charged with prostitution were:
Betsy Arauco, 42, Clifton
Thalia Diaz, 20, Bronx, NY
Genesis Matos, 25, Clifton
Maria Diaz, 45, Bronx, NY
Miledis Done-Caraballo, 46, Bronx, NY
A total of $444 was recovered from the “dancers.”
“Prostitution will not be tolerated in Paterson,” Speziale said with Mayor Andre Sayegh adding that “this is yet further proof that those coming to Paterson to commit crimes are no longer welcome.”
