PATERSON, NJ - A Paterson teenager is being held at the Essex County Detention Center after reportedly being found in possession of a stolen semi-automatic handgun on Saturday.
According to Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale, members of the city’s Street Crime Unit, assisted by detectives from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, were in the area of Godwin Avenue and Summer Street at approximately 8:25 p.m. when they observed a group of males engaged in a dice game on the sidewalk.
As detectives exited their vehicles to disperse the group, Detective James Jenkins observed a male attempting to conceal an object in his waistband, while trying to walk away from the intersection. The individual was detained, and a semi-automatic handgun was recovered from his waist area.
The recovered firearm will be submitted to the New Jersey State Police Lab for further examination.
