PATERSON, NJ – An investigation has been launched by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office after a police-involved shooting left a man dead overnight, according to a statement. A report issued Saturday afternoon said that the incident took place on 16th Avenue at approximately 1:00 a.m.
The investigation comes as prescribed by a law enacted in 2019 that requires that the Attorney General’s Office to conduct investigations of a person’s death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody.
