PATERSON, NJ - An investigation is underway into the shooting death of a Prospect Park man in Paterson on Monday.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald, members fo the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of North 1st Street and Haledon Avenue at approximately 1:01 p.m. after a report of shots fired. 

Upon their arrival, the officers discovered Niyam Deloatch, 20, with apparent gunshot wounds. Deloatch was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center by Paterson Fire EMS where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
