PATERSON, NJ - Paterson Public Safety Direcor Jerry Speziale’s promise that “everyday we will continue to fight the illicit drug trade in our city,“ rang true again on Tuesday as members of the Paterson Police Narcotics Division made an arrest and pulled another loaded weapon off the streets.

According to Speziale the detectives were responding to resident’s complaints about drug activity in the area of 271 Summer Street when, at approximately 11:30 a.m., they are said to have observed Oshun Carey, 29, engage in a hand to hand drug transaction.

The detectives approached the suspect and arrested him without incident, at which point Carey gave written consent to have his motor vehicle and residence, a second floor apartment on North 3rd Street, searched.

Through the search, Speziale said, police confiscated 370 glassine envelopes containing suspected heroin, 85 oxycontin tablets, less than 50 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a stolen .32 caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded with seven rounds.

Carey now faces approximately 15 drugs and gun related charges as a result of the arrest.
