PATERSON, NJ - A Paterson man is dead and another is recovering following an early morning shooting Sunday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald announced.

With the death of Brian Taveras, 20, on Friday this is the second fatal shooting in Paterson in just over 48 hours, and eleventh of 2019.

According to the report, members of the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of 317 12th Avenue at approximately 4:01 a.m. on a report of shots fired. Once on scene police discovered the two victims, Rajahn Alston, 36, and Jason Frierson, 35, both with apparent gunshot wounds.

Both men were transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center by Paterson Fire Department EMS where Alston was pronounced dead at approximately 4:33 a.m.  

An investigation into the incident is ongoing and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has asked anyone with additional information to contact them on their tips line at 1-877-370-PCPO or tips@passaiccountynj.org or to contact the Paterson Police Detective Bureau at 973-321-1120.
