PATERSON, NJ - A Paterson man was arrested Monday after being found to be in possession of a handgun, Paterson Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale announced. An investigation into the incident also led to the recovery of two additional loaded semiautomatic weapons in the same area where a shooting claimed a man’s life earlier in the day.

According to Speziale, members of the COVID Compliance Detail were on patrol at approximately 6:24 p.m. when they were informed of a male in possession of a firearm in the area of 12th Avenue and Straight Street.

Upon arrival in the area, Detective Bashir immediately observed an individual matching the clothing description of the armed male. Noticing the police, the suspect, later identified as Jordany Candelario Batista, is said to have reached for his waistband while attempting to flee on foot.
