PATERSON, NJ - An investigation has been launched into an overnight shooting that left three Paterson men with gunshot wounds in an incident that took place just after midnight on Saturday.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora, members of the Paterson Police Department were dispatched to a building in the area of Grand Street Paterson on a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival the police located the first victim, 23 years old, who sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound. The victim was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center by Paterson Fire Department EMS.
While tending to the victim police were advised that two additional victims, 27 and 22 years old, had also arrived at the hospital seeking treatment for non-fatal gunshot wounds.
The incident came just hours after a 33-year-old man was shot in the area of East 32nd Street. Officials have announced that Wayne A. Smith, 37, has been arrested in connection with that incident.
