PATERSON, NJ - Offering another reminder that there is no routine traffic stop, two members of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office confiscated two handguns in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik, PCSO Officers Angelo Calabro and Mathew Baskinger stopped a silver Mercedes Benz E-Class for having an obstructed windshield.

After identifying the driver of Lauren Kirk, 31, Calabro reported noticing that backseat passenger Mark Jackson, 27, was in possession of an open bottle of Hennessey. A quick hand movement by Jackson, the statement continued, made the officer concerned that he might be in possession of a weapon, something that was verified when a loaded Smith & Wesson .38 revolver was found in his front right pocket.

Front seat passenger Messiah Bronson, 28, was also ordered out of the vehicle at which point is he is said to have stated “I got something in my front right pocket.” A search of Bronson by Baskinger is said to have revealed the suspect to be in possession of a defaced and loaded Smith and Wesson .380 semiautomatic handgun.

Both men were transferred to Passaic County Jail while Kirk was released on the scene with a traffic summons.
