PISCATAWAY, NJ - Now in its 17th year, the Piscataway Rotary Club's annual Taste of Piscataway brought out almost two dozen restaurants and caterers to the Radisson Hotel's ballroom Monday night, where 150 guests stopped by to sample Italian, Sri Lankan, Jamaican and various types of American cuisines and desserts among others.
"The night went really well," said Nancy Ostrowski, the Piscataway Rotary Club's president noting that the Taste has become a standing community tradition.
"This is one of the best ones we've had," she said about the number of food and beverage participants that were there from around Middlesex County, which she said increased over the years.
Some of the restaurants were new to the Taste, such as Piscataway based caterer, H & H Jamaican & American Quizine, there were many who returned from last year including Cedar Grove Cafe & Catering, the Radisson Hotel's Fusions Restaurant and student chefs from the Middlesex County Vo-Tech’s culinary program.
While attendees could enjoy bites of pasta dishes, sausages, sandwiches, jerk chicken, beer, wine, and sangria, all in one room, the main purpose for the Taste was about raising funds to provide service to others, the mission of Rotary International.
"The proceeds of tonight's event will help fund some the projects the Rotary is doing such as the Memorial Day Family Event on May 29th that is to raise money to help veterans," she said about the Piscataway Rotary Club’s next project to aid those in the local community.
Other projects that will benefit from the annual Taste of Piscataway include local children's and hunger causes such as the club's annual dictionary donation to every third grader in the school district and food donations to the FISH Food Bank.
