A National African American Breast Cancer Survivorship Organization

Sisters Network of Central New Jersey® Inc. (SNCNJ) was formed in January 2000 and serves as a critical resource for women battling and surviving breast cancer.  The four SNCNJ founders, Dorothy Reed, Pearl Grace (deceased), LaReatha Payne, and Rosa Davis, through their collective experiences with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, provided vast knowledge and they added their wisdom and personalized perspective of the breast cancer experience to the organization.

The staff members organize and manage the business of the nonprofit and furnish hands-on services for the callers, visitors, and breast cancer survivors who contact SNCNJ for information, advocacy, comfort,  health and survivorship resources.

African-American women have the highest mortality rate of any ethnic group in the United States, SNCNJ is committed to educating, advocating, and supporting women and families about the devastation of breast cancer in our community.  SNCNJ National Creed:  “In Unity there is Strength, In Strength there is Power, and In Power there is Change.”

SNCNJ conducts several specific breast health and breast cancer awareness programs, such as “The Young But Not the Reckless for women under 41, high school & college students; Silver Foxes for senior women 55+;  Community-wide events that educate and raise funds are also conducted annually.  These events are Health Summit & Breakfast; 5K Run/Walk 4Life; and the Pearl Grace Memorial Breast Cancer Golf Tournament.

Approximately 30 survivors attend the monthly survivorship support meetings held every second Monday at the SNCNJ facility.

SNCNJ Breast Cancer Assistance Program (BCAP) is a unique primary assistance program that provides financial assistance and support services for uninsured, underserved, and ill women diagnosed with breast cancer.  “Your Sisters House” provides office space and serves as a teaching facility where education seminars, support meetings, and other health-related activities are conducted.

Since SNCNJ inception we have served over 400,000 women with education and provided over $100,000 in financial services to women during treatment.

SNCNJ is assisted by a Professional Advisory Board and Executive Board that is comprised of talented persons with expertise in various professions.  They provide valuable partnership, professional service, fundraising assistance, and they support the SNCNJ mission with community outreach, contacts, personal resources, and contributions.
