PISCATAWAY, NJ — A collision between a flatbed tow truck and a Mercedes sedan blocked the right, northbound lane of Possumtown Road slowing traffic through the area for a period of time Sunday morning. The accident happened around 10 a.m. just past the railroad trestle approaching Birch Run Drive.
The crash resulted in the tow truck coming to a stop facing oncoming traffic, near the trestle’s concrete retaining wall in the right lane with damage to its cab section.
The Mercedes was stopped against the right lane’s guard rail with significant damage on all four sides of the vehicle. Its curtain airbags were deployed and the driver’s side window was smashed.
Four passing drivers stopped to assist when the accident happened. The driver of the Mercedes was evaluated for possible injuries by responding Piscataway police and an EMS unit from RWJ hospital.
The tow truck driver was seen holding his head during the investigation.
Another accident in the almost the same area of Possumtown Road resulted in the death of one man and injuries to six others last month.
