NORTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. – Denis Jose Cabrera-Ramierz, age 24, of Bronx, New York was arrested by North Plainfield Police in a brutal bat attack early Sunday morning on Somerset Street in North Plainfield.

According to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at approximately 12:32 a.m. North Plainfield Police received a 911 call reporting an assault that had occurred outside a Somerset Street social club. Responding officers located the victim, a 23 year old male, who had severe head injuries. The victim was treated by North Plainfield EMTs and was transported to a nearby trauma center.  His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.       

Officers met with security personnel from the social club who had detained the suspect identified as Denis Jose Cabrera-Ramierz.  The defendant was arrested without incident.

Detectives from the North Plainfield Police Department responded to conduct the investigation.

The investigation revealed that after a verbal argument in the club’s parking lot defendant Cabrera-Ramierz removed an aluminum baseball bat from his parked vehicle and struck the victim in the head with the bat.

Defendant Cabrera-Ramierz has been charged with Aggravated Assault, 2nd Degree, Aggravated Assault, 3rd Degree and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, 3rd Degree.
