EDISON, NJ – Police are investigating a possible suicide Thursday afternoon when a man jumped in front of a Conrail freight train, officials said.
According to police, the unidentified man jumped a chain link fence and darted in front of a Conrail freight train shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday on Tingley Lane.
Witnesses told police that the man scaled the fence and then stopped in the path of the train and was hit and killed.
Police pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said.
Authorities are withholding the man’s identity until the family is notified.
Police and emergency medical technicians from JFK Medical Center in Edison went to the scene and township detectives are conducting the investigation, police said.
Currently police are classifying the incident as a “possible suicide.”
