NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - A former assistant football coach with the Piscataway Chiefs was arrested Saturday on multiple charges involving the sexual assault of a minor. 

John M. Denuto, 43, of Spotswood was arrested and charged with one count of sexual assault in the second degree, one count of endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree, one count of filming child pornography in the second degree and one count of possession of child pornography in the third degree, according to a press release from Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L. C. Kuberiet and Chief John Zebrowski of the Sayreville Police Department.

According to the release, the minor "was known to him."

Denuto is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center pending a detention hearing.

According to an nj.com report, Union County College fired Denuto as its wrestling coach - a position he was hired to fill six months ago. He has also been suspended from his job as a teacher at Sayreville Middle School.

According to a mycentraljersey.com report, Denuto has coached wrestling and football at 16 different New Jersey high schools.

He previously served as the head high school wrestling coach at Sayreville, Spotswood, Arthur L. Johnson Regional, Camden Catholic and Pennsville. He has been an assistant wrestling coach at South Brunswick, Woodbridge, Raritan, Bishop Ahr (now St. Thomas Aquinas), St. John Vianney and St. Joseph of Montvale high schools, and an assistant football coach at Monroe, Middletown North, Piscataway, Ocean Township and Seton Hall Prep high schools.

Denuto also previously served as a coach with the Old Bridge and Sayreville recreation wrestling programs.
