"Girl Scouts of East Brunswick, Milltown, and South River" Merges Local Troops

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - It’s a great time to be a Girl Scout and a Girl Scout volunteer.

On July 1 the Girl Scout volunteers in East Brunswick merged with volunteers in South River and Milltown to provide even more opportunities for girls.

Troop leaders and other volunteers will get increased and more efficient support with this merger.  New Girl Scouts and adult volunteers will see more troops opening, new programs offered, and increased opportunity to partner with other community groups. “We will be able to offer a more vibrant program for current and new Girl Scouts,” said Service Unit Manager Jean Christie, one of the lead volunteers of the combined group. New troops area already forming in each area.

Leaders from the three communities have been meeting together since January and are getting to know each other, sharing ideas and resources, and planning joint community events.

The new unit will be called Girl Scouts of East Brunswick Milltown and South River. Since East Brunswick was the largest unit, ‘Greater East Brunswick’ or ‘East Brunswick Area’ titles were also under consideration “but we wanted to honor the legacy of each community so settled on the longer and more accurate name,” said Laurel Van Leer, Service Unit Manager.

All three areas have a long and proud Girl Scout heritage, with South River being the oldest organized unit. South River and Milltown volunteers merged over a decade ago so joining forces to create a better program for girls is not a new idea.

For more information about joining or volunteering for Girl Scouts in East Brunswick, Milltown or South River, contact Tanya Davis at The Girl Scout membership year runs from October 1 through September 30th annually. New members may take advantage of a discounted “extended year membership” that includes summer programs as well at the full 2018-2019 membership year. Girls in grades K-12 may express interest in joining a troop or being an Independent Girl Scout, called a Juliette after Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low.  Like and follow the Facebook page @GirlScoutsofEastBrunswickMilltownandSouthRiver

Extra Time

It was close to 70 minutes into the match and I had to go to the bathroom.  Badly.

As fans watching the World Cup know too well, bathroom breaks are a serious dilemma, especially for those who don’t have a TV in the loo.  This biological necessity is exasperated by beer, which during World Cup matches also fuels a strong propensity to throw chairs and instigate riots.
