SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Another township family was devastated by fire this week when flames ripped through a home located in a development just minutes away from South Brunswick High School on Thursday. The Datla family was not home at the time of the fire. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family of four who lost their home and all of their personal belongings. More than $50,000 has been raised in a day.
The second fire in a week broke out at around 4:30 p.m and was reported by a motorist driving by who called 911.
“Firefighters did a tremendous job working in some of the coldest temperatures in memory," said South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka. "It’s usual to have two fires destroy homes and displace families in one week. Our community has a history of rallying to support one another and I am sure we will do it again.”
A GoFundMe page was also set up for Brooke Locklear and Billy Turner as well as their three children. Locklear and Turner lost their home on Fresh Ponds Road on January 23. More than 30,000 has been raised for the family in over a week.
Both fires are currently under investigation by the South Brunswick Township Fire Safety Bureau.
