JERSEY CITY - Goya Foods, the largest Hispanic-owned food company in the United States, partners with Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ) to spearhead the launch of a statewide Goya Cooking With Care patch program.
Goya is the first global company to establish and design a Girl Scouts patch with GSHNJ. The sponsorship also includes financial support and a donation of Goya products to rollout the program throughout the school year and provide scholarships for girls to attend GSHNJ’s summer camps. Goya’s R&D Food Scientist/Nutritionist, who was in Girl Scouts as a youth, assisted in the development of the patch program.
“This program helps support the CDC and MyPlate National Sodium Reduction Initiatives, while helping girls and their families learn to cook healthier cultural foods and respect the differences of other cultures.” said Meriterese Racanelli, M.S., R&D Food Scientist/Nutritionist for Goya Foods, who helps expand Goya’s healthy product lines, community outreach and wellness campaigns.
“We are extremely pleased to be partnering with Goya and appreciate their generous donation to help promote the many exciting aspects of this girl-led program,” said Natasha Hemmings, CEO, of Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey. “Goya’s financial support to provide camp scholarships for girls in need is a tremendous opportunity for them and an experience they will never forget.”
“The Goya Cooking With Care patch program will encourage girls to explore the science behind healthy eating, food insecurity within their communities, and promote the conversation of varying food traditions across cultures,” said Rafael Toro, Director of Public Relations of Goya Foods.
