EDISON, NJ - Lifelong Franklin resident, Assemblyman Joe Danielsen (D-17 Middlesex/Somerset), chairman of the Assembly Oversight, Reform, and Federal Relations Committee will host the first installment of his "Cannabis Listening Tour" at Middlesex Community College this Saturday.
The hearing is open to the public and will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2600 Woodbridge Ave. Edison in the West Hall - Parkview Room at MCC.
“The committee is eager to continue this discussion as it pertains to the public health, criminal justice system, and economy in our state,” Danielsen said in a press release. “We look forward to furthering our education on this subject as we listen to various viewpoints and consider all arguments.”
During the hearing, Danielsen will take testimony from invited speakers and the public on the impact of prospective marijuana legislation on the public health, criminal justice system and economy in New Jersey.
"The Assembly is of the opinion, that we only have one shot at doing this right the first time," Danielsen said last month during a committee hearing. "This is too important to rush. The process must include heavy input from our communities."
Another hearing is scheduled for April 21 at Rowan University, and the last in the series is scheduled for May 12 at Bergen Community College. All meetings will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Earlier this month the Office of the Attorney General announced a series of “informal conferences” to be held on April 19 in Newark and on April 24 in Trenton. The division will be seeking comments on whether any change in the classification status of Marijuana is warranted because of the current accepted uses for medical marijuana in the state.
