NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - A motorist reportedly slammed into the New Brunswick Farmer’s Market on French Street and then fled the scene in the early hours of October 14, leaving the storefront heavily damaged and a section of the roof partially caved in.

Jin Kim, the owner of the farmer’s market, said he received calls about the crash from the New Brunswick Police Department and the store’s alarm company at around 2:30 a.m.

The car was reportedly found abandoned several blocks away, according to Billy Nam, who mans the store's fish counter. Nam added that the car was described as an SUV Cadillac.

At around 8:50 a.m., workers from the city’s Division of Inspections began breaking off portions of the roof which were sagging and hanging over the sidewalk in front of the store.

Bill Schrum, who works for city inspections, added that on-scene officials are hoping to have the business ready to resume normal operations by late afternoon.
