PISCATAWAY, NJ – The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) officially released the football classifications for 2016 Friday morning.
For 2016, Piscataway Chiefs Football moves from North 2, Group 5 to Central Jersey, Group 5.
In a Facebook post on Friday regarding the new classification, Piscataway Chiefs Football stated, “Piscataway has been shifted back to Central Jersey for the first time since winning the 2002 Central Jersey Group IV title.
This year will be like an 'old friends' section as many familiar opponents are potential matchups for the Chiefs, should they reach the playoffs.”
They list the 15 teams in Central Jersey, Group 5:
“Seven of these teams (East Brunswick, Edison, Franklin, Manalapan, Monroe, New Brunswick, Old Bridge, South Brunswick) are on Piscataway's schedule this year and the Chiefs have met Hillsborough, Hunterdon Central and Marlboro in previous playoff games,” they continued.
“North Brunswick and Perth Amboy have been frequent pairings in the GMC Red over the years. Freehold Township is the only team in the section which the Chiefs have never played.”
