SOMERVILLE, NJ – More than 100 classic cars, hot rods and motorcycles lined Main Street last night as they will each Friday night during the summer.

Most car owners parked their cars at the curb, popped the trunk open and took out their lawn chairs to spend the evening answering questions and exchanging stories with fellow car owners; others opted to put their cars in gear and cruise up and down Main Street.

Thousands of people jammed Main Street for the inaugural 2016 Friday Night Cruise Night, stopping to gaze and admire the low-slung hot rods, the voluptuous luxury cards of the ‘50s and ‘60s, the customized pick-up trucks and other classics.

There were miniature imports, kit cars, and a WWII –era Army jeep complete with a 3-star general’s plate.

Restaurants were busy and merchants were smiling. It was a busy night for retail.

Sponsored by the Downtown Somerville Alliance and the Fullerton Auto Group, Cruise Night will continue throughout Labor Day.
