NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - Brandon Cox, 23, of the Somerset Section of Franklin Township has been charged with 16 criminal counts, including attempted murder, after a Feb. 19 attack on a Highland Park woman.
Cox has also been charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, armed robbery, burglary, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, endangering the welfare of a child and endangering an injured victim, according to officials.
“During the investigation it was determined that the victim was walking with a child when the defendant approached her, displayed a weapon, forced her into the basement of a nearby apartment building, sexually assaulted her and repeatedly punched her before fleeing,” alleges a press release from Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Highland Park Police Chief Stephen Rizco.
Highland Park Police Det. Sean McGraw and Det. Allie Bitterman of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the case.
