Robertson provided the following account:

At 12:07 a.m., Monday, a 911 call was received by the Somerset County Communications Center, reporting a burglary in progress at a North 5th Avenue residence in Manville.

Responding Manville Officers found the suspect inside the residence, involved in a physical confrontation with the homeowner and suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest.

Manville officers and the homeowner initiated life-saving medical aid to Cook, who was transported to a local trauma center for emergency treatment.  The homeowner, whom authorities have only identified as an off-duty police officer, was also transported to a local hospital for examination of injuries sustained during the physical encounter with defendant Cook and traumatic stress related physical conditions.

Detectives from the Manville Police Department, along with detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Crime Scene Investigations and Forensics Unit responded to the scene to conduct the investigation.

The investigation thus far has revealed that Cook is suspected of committing and attempting to commit numerous residential and vehicle burglaries in the area, according to Robertson.  The investigation into defendant Cooks criminal activity is actively on-going.

Cook has been charged with third degree burglary and was listed in critical condition under police guard at the trauma center.

Robertson asks that anyone with information regarding this incident or recent residential or vehicle burglaries within the Manville area to contact the Somerset County Prosecutors Office Major Crimes Unit at (908) 231-7100, the Manville Police Department (908) 725-1900 or the Somerset County Crime Stoppers’ Tip Line at 1-888-577-TIPS (8477) or online at www.888577tips.org or www.scpo.net and click on either “Crime Stoppers” or “TIPS HOTLINE”. The Best Way to Pay Your Child a Compliment

“Of course you’re good-looking.”  “You’re the best friend ever.”  “Who wouldn’t want you on their team?”  Is there a parent out there (including me) who hasn’t praised a child in order to make him or her feel better?  Sometimes it’s true, and sometimes we say it because we just can’t stand to see them ...
