BRIDGEWATER, NJ - An unidentified male died Sunday after he was struck by a vehicle on Route 22 near North Gaston Avenue at about 11:55 p.m., according to a report from Bridgewater Township Police. The man is the fourth pedestrian killed in that section of the roadway since August. In August, two pedestrians were fatally struck and another pedestrian was killed in the westbound lanes in December.
According to police, a man was standing in the center lane of travel on Route 22 West near North Gaston Avenue when he was struck by a 2015 Ford Mustang, driven by Douglas Marino, 25, of Bridgewater.
The male was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead.
The man is Hispanic, age 20 to 30. According to police, he was wearing black colored Adidas sweatpants, a black colored non-descript long sleeve shirt with a black colored Nike short sleeve shirt underneath.
The motor vehicle crash is still under investigation.
The crash is being investigated by the Bridgewater Township Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau and the Somerset County Accident Reconstruction Team.
